Four Things Friday

Well I haven't done one of these list-y type posts in a while.  In fact, my blog writing has basically been limited to race recaps for the past two months.  So I give to you Five Four Things Friday!

1 - January has been a great month for running!  I am finally back to my normal running routine after being sidelined by a sore hip/butt/SI joint.  It is a weird "injury" - it never hurts while I'm running, just pretty much all the other minutes of the day (and even then it's just this dull ache, nothing terrible).  It doesn't seem to get any less painful with rest and it doesn't seem to get any more painful when I run, so I choose to just run.  Suck it up, Buttercup!

2 - Related to #1, I have also started doing weekly tempo/speed runs again.  And also weekly marathon pace runs.  I'm supposed to be going for a PR in NOLA on February 24.  Ever heard of the 7 week marathon training program?  Yeah, neither have I, but that's the plan I'm going with.  I'll keep you posted on the results.

Marathon PR in just 7 weeks.

3 - My friends are such bad influences on me.  Or maybe I've been a bad influence on them??  I am supposed to be concentrating on my NOLA PR for the next couple of weeks, which means that my long runs are super important - I have an 18-er scheduled for tomorrow and a 22-er scheduled for next Saturday.  And the runs are supposed to be done at my specific long run training pace.  But yesterday one of my friends talked me into doing the Mississippi River Marathon next Saturday instead.  How can I say no to running a marathon with friends??  I can't, so I will likely try to do my 22-mile training run within the marathon - maintain my training pace for the first 22 miles, then just walk the final 4.2 miles.  Or something like that.

Source.  Marathon #11 and a 2-star Maniac.

4 - I have really been meaning to get back on a strength training routine.  I don't mind Body Pump but I hate having to work it around the gym's schedule.  So I ordered some DVD's.  So far I like them a lot.

I liked Bob's yoga DVD so much that I decided to try out some of his other DVDs.

So tell me about all your aches and pains???  Things that don't necessarily keep you from running, but are definitely running-related.

    1. Oh no! I used to have issues with my foot going numb. I'd just have to walk it out. It ended up going away on its own though. Hopefully the chiro will have some answers for you!

  2. Good Luck! Couple of my friends are running NOLA too and they have a bet going one. If Jason beats Phillip then Phillip has to shave his head, he has Tom Brady like hair haha but it would probably all grown back in a week haha. If Phillip beats Jason then Jason has to grown a mustache. He wouldn't look right with one at all. Anyways, good job doing tempos and marathon pace miles. Good Luck with the 7 week PR plan. I think you can do 22ish miles at your long run pace at Mississippi and just mail it in the final 4.2 miles. Have fun maniac!

    1. Haha! That bet sounds hilarious! I make no bets about beating anyone because I'm sure to lose! NOLA is a nice flat course and generally has excellent weather. For the two years, I used it as my half marathon PR race. I broke 2 hours for the first time there in 2011 and then I held a sub 9-min/mile pace there in 2012 (and that is super fast for my short little legs). So this year I decided to make it my marathon PR race, although I haven't put in nearly enough serious training into it as I did for my half marathon PRs. I guess we shall see. Does running 6 marathons count as training?? I hope so.

  3. Good luck at Mississippi! (Even if it is just a "training run.") ;-)
